I painted the gun from the River Thames and the street 'Coldharbour'. I liked the old houses in the street, back then they were cheap but I think they cost a fortune now. This was my local when I served at Blackwall Thames Police Station, and where Less the landlord back then sold my paintings in the back bar. about the pub, its steeped in history.
The pub dates back to the early 18th century but it took it's current name from the cannon which was fired to celebrate the opening of the West India Import Docks in 1802.
In the late 18th century, Lord Horatio Nelson acquired a property just up the road (still known as Nelson's House) and he regularly visited the docks to inspect the guns up until his glorious death at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
Lord Nelson would frequent The Gun and regularly meet Lady Emma Hamilton in an upstairs room (now called The River Room) for their secret assignations.

MACKENZIE MOULTON ARTIST Mackenzie Moulton, born 21st June 1947 in Exeter, Devon, England. The first son of an English father and Scottish Mother and an Irish Grandfather. A result of which he has a deep Celtic origin. His talent recognised at an early age and a year before leaving school at 15, was invited to attend Exeter Art College at weekends to study Sculpture.
