Description
The Prospect of Whitby is a well known pub in Wapping and I have created this painting to represent it in the 1800's
Located on the Thames foreshore and dating from the 1520s, this old boozer has its original flagstone floor and a wonderful pewter bar from where youll be served (grumpily, on our visit) Greene King IPA, London Pride, Old Speckled Hen and Timothy Taylor Landlord, as well as eight red and white wines by the glass. The noose hanging outside is a reference to one of its most famous customers Hanging Judge Jeffreys. These days youre more likely to be jostling for a seat with locals and tourists looking for one of the popular roast dinners. Find a spot overlooking the river out on the terrace or upstairs in the Pepys Room where theres an open fire and located on a shelf a human ulna bone found in the pub.
